Spirit 1
Site-specific installation, handspun wool — Rundgang, Universität der Künste Berlin

This installation grew out of learning to handspin wool from scratch. Using locally sourced wool, I taught myself to card, spin, and draw fine thread with a hand spindle. In the final piece, threads descend from a wooden grid and rejoin the raw mass of wool they were spun from, evoking the cords of a puppet: a metaphor for the ruling force of spirit.

Set against the fast pace of an art academy's open-studio days, the installation was built to be a time-stopper, asking the viewer to slow down and follow the intricate pattern of the threads. Its rudimentary aesthetic and time-consuming process aim to create an archetype of Earth's rhythm.
